Travelling / Transport in Mumbai

Travelling in Mumbai internally can be a pain everyday. “Though distance wise it isn’t very far, still it took us so long to reach”, is a common phrase used by all Mumbaikars. Another common and ‘honest’ phrase used is “Sorry, we’re late but we got stuck in traffic”. Though our public transport system is huge, it is still difficult to travel within Mumbai. Reasons being:

Mumbai is an overly populated city, therefore the current transport system of local trains, buses, auto’s and taxi’s are not enough.
Our public transport like local trains and buses are filthy, not well maintained from the inside. (Blame our public for that, because they keep spitting pan everywhere, for which ideally they should be fined)
Our roads are not well maintained (Blame the road contractors or the monsoons) and get very congested due to the massive increase of the cars on the roads in recent times. According to a recent survey done, there are approx 250 cars added to Mumbai roads every single day.
mumbai-local-train Most of the times the traffic signals are not working and traffic cops are not present to handle the uncivilized traffic and chaos.
Most of the people don’t follow the driving rules.

Though cleaning of buses and trains are being done, still it is not enough, as our public need to be educated and fined for all their misbehavior.

Private taxi’s have added luxurious rides to the rich class but do not cut on the time of travel.

Metro trains are underway and we hope that it should relieve our people from the everyday delays, costs and frustration.

Below are the different modes of public transport available in Mumbai.
